September 20th, September 27th
October 4th, October 11th
12:00pm-3:00pm EST
$160, $250 for the Whole Course

This four-part course, based on the Cultivating Emotional Balance program co-created by Dr. Alan Wallace, Dr. Paul Ekman and Dr. Eve Ekman upon the request of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, will offer an introduction to the fundamentals of emotional psychology combined with a practical exploration of the four immeasurables. Participants will learn to identify and unpack their emotional episodes and then explore the different ways of using prosocial mental states as an elegant and balanced response to any emotions that naturally come up.

The ability to clearly see, and then skillfully direct the waves of our emotional energy is a skill that can be cultivated through a combination of mindful awareness, engaged learning, and compassionate self-correction. Amongst the manifold contemplative strategies that support this process of earning, the cultivation of the four immeasurables—loving kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity—stands out as a particular elegant solution: while helping us cultivate the foundational qualities of mindfulness, introspection, and mental stability, these four states also directly strengthen our prosocial skills and helps us become more benevolent towards ourselves and others.

Cultivating Emotional Balance is a comprehensive training method centered around the exploration of our emotional landscape and using its energy to support greater wellbeing—essentially, a greater sense of happiness, meaning and joy in the midst of our turbulent times.

Developed by Dr. Alan Wallace, Dr. Paul Ekman and Dr. Eve Ekman at the request of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, CEB is a secular approach that combines the scientific understanding of emotions as an evolutionary mechanism with the profound contemplative methods for developing concentration and kindness.
